Tchaikovsky Summer School • FAQ


Welcome to the Moscow Art Summer Academy!

We hope that you will have a memorable and rewarding experience this summer. The following information may prove helpful for your stay.

CHECKING-IN AND CHECKING OUT
All students (including those not staying on campus) are requested to check in between 10 AM and 7 PM on Monday, July 31.  If you plan to arrive before or after that time please contact us for special arrangements.

All rooms must be vacated by 12 noon on Monday, August 21.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to extend your stay at the E.D.S. beyond that date.

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
Please make sure to bring with you:

  1. Your instrument and all tools you may need for taking care of it, including the set of extra strings.
  2. All music scores you are workng on or expect to work on at the school (including the part for an accompanist.)
  3. Notepad and pen for taking notes.
IMPORTANT: ALL STUDENTS TRAVELING TO BOSTON PLEASE READ.  Once you have booked your ticket please contact our office to let us know your approximate arrival time.  Please make sure that we have your cell phone on file. This will help us to make sure that your room is ready for you when you get it in. 

TRAVEL TO BOSTON
If you are traveling by car:
From the West (I-90, Mass Pike)
:  take the Allston/Cambridge exit off I-90, go through the toll booth and follow the signs to Cambridge.  Cross the bridge and turn left onto Memorial Drive.  Take a right onto JFK Street, go to the third light (Harvard Square), and take a left onto Brattle Street.  Brattle St. forks to the right in about 50 yards: take this fork and follow Brattle St. about five blocks to where it is intersected by Mason and Ash streets.  The EDS chapel and library can be seen from this intersection.  Take a right onto Mason St., go two blocks to the traffic light and take a left onto Garden St.  Go straight ahead for a short distance and take a left onto Berkeley St. by the side of the Sheraton Commander Hotel.  Berkeley St. runs into the back of the EDS campus, and visitor parking is along the back fence.

From I-93 North or South: take the Storrow Drive exit off I-93 and follow it west to Harvard Square exit (Anderson Bridge).  When you cross the bridge, you are on JFK Street; follow directions from JFK Street listed above.

Public Transportation
Greater Boston municipal transportation system is called the T. It includes four subway lines (Red, Green, Orange and Blue) as well as numerous bus routes. Our school is located near Harvard Square Station on the Red Line (5-10 minutes walk.) Fare is $1.25 for one token. There are also various bus routes that go through Harvard Square.

If you take a cab (fare from Logan is $30-35; fare from South Station is $15-20) please tell the driver that you are going to Episcopal Divinity School located right behind the Sheraton Commander Hotel in Cambridge at the Harvard Square area. 

If you arrive in Boston by plane. 
Take subway from Logan International Airport.  Catch “T” shuttle from the terminal to the T Station on the Blue Line.  Take Blue Line inbound train toward Bowdoin and transfer to the Green Line at Government Center Station. Take the Green Line inbound train to Park Street Station and transfer to the Red Line. Take Red Line outbound train toward Alewife and get off at Harvard Square Station. Follow the directions from Harvard Square T station below. 

If you arrive in Boston by train or by bus.
Take subway from South Station. From the main level of the train terminal, go two floors down to the subway station and take the Red Line inbound to the Harvard Square stop (6 stops after South Station). Follow walking instructions below.

On foot from the Harvard Square T station (subway): 
Take the Church Street exit from the station.  Follow Church St. two blocks, and take a right on Brattle St.  After about four blocks, Brattle St. is intersected by Mason St. and Ash St.  The EDS chapel and library can be seen from this intersection, on the right side of Brattle St
